This
year’s dance workshop (in English and German) will be a
meeting of our familiar Yiddish dance repertoire (freylekhs,
sher, hora, etc.) with a special repertoire of Yiddish
and Transylvanian Gypsy dance and music brought to us by
Bob Cohen (USA/Hungary) and Di Naye Kapelye. Dance
teachers Florin Kordoban (Romania) and Sue Foy (Hungary)
will be our guides to this repertoire, accompanied as
always by live music. We are also delighted to welcome
back esteemed Yiddish dance teachers Michael Alpert
(USA), Andreas Schmitges (Germany) and Zev Feldman (USA/Israel), who will bring with
them news from the recent international conference on
Yiddish dance in New York.

overview YSW 2008
You ever
like to know how to dance a Hora? Or a Sher? Did you
know that you can wonderfully dance to “The Lion sleeps
tonight” – not only in hassidic communities? No? Then
the Dance DVD which was produced during the Yiddish
Summer Weimar 2007 offers the best insight into
traditional Yiddish dance repertoire and traditional and
modern hassidic dances. These were taught by the capable
dance masters Jill Gellerman (New York, USA), Helene
Domergue-Zilberberg (Nimes, France), Erik Bendix
(Cincinnatti, USA) and Andreas Schmitges (Köln, Germany)
within the Dance workshop. On this DVD all dances of the
workshop are introduced by detailed teaching sessions.
The dances are accompanied by the participants of the
dance music workshop under the direction of Christian
Dawid (Berlin, Germany), Binyomin Ginzberg (New Jersey,
USA) and Alan Bern (Berlin, Germany). The DVD
wonderfully prepares a participation in the dance
workshop of the Yiddish Summer Weimar and makes you
hungry for more – because to learn live is the best!
The DVD
costs 20 Euro for workshop participants and members of
other music and 50 Euro for prospective buyer from
outside.
