This advanced workshop will have a very high technical
level, and is for advanced and professional musicians
with extensive experience in Yiddish and/or Roma music,
and strong music reading and playing-by-ear skills. The
focus of the workshop in 2008 will be traditional style
and repertoire. In 2009, the same faculty will explore
contemporary and crossover repertoire and style. Join us
for a 2-year exploration of the past, present, and
future of Yiddish and Roma music cross-fertilization.
A special note: please help get the word out to
brass players, too! With Dan Blacksberg, Paul Brody,
Mark Rubin, and Adam Stinga, we have the strongest group
of brass teachers ever gathered for an event of this
kind. Don’t let them be lonely!
participation fee 290 € or 250 € (reduced),

For the
Instrument Workshop Participants
In
preparation for the workshop, we've chosen thirteen
pieces of music as common repertoire for everyone to
learn before arriving. We'll use these pieces to compare
and contrast Yiddish and Roma style starting on the
first day, so it's very important to learn them before
arriving. We've created a link (see below) where you can
download (downloadable till June, 30th!) two .zip files,
giving you both the original mp3 recordings and Marin
Buneau's written transcriptions of the pieces. In the
transcriptions folder there are also instructions on how
to work with the mp3s and transcriptions. We recommend
that you download these files as soon as possible to
give yourselves enough time to work with them before the
workshop. If you have any difficulties, please let us
know and we'll try to find another way to get the music
to you.
