The
association of "other music"
was founded in Autumn 2005 as promoter of Yiddish Summer
Weimar. Up to 2005, the association Kuratorium Schloss
Ettersburg e. V. was responsible for the festival which
was formerly known as Klezmer Wochen Weimar. The
festival has been continously coordinated by program
director Alan Bern and festival manager Stephanie Erben
until today.
The
Deutscher Musikrat awarded other music e.V.
and Yiddish Summer Weimar the first prize nationally for
"The Other Europeans" project, in the category
"intercultural music." The award was given during a
public ceremony on February 19th 2008 in Berlin, in
which the German Federal Minister for the Family, Ursula
von der Leyen, presented the prize to Stephanie Erben
and Alan Bern.

We are
delighted and honored to receive this recognition, our
first at the national level, and hope it is a sign of a
bright future for our projects. Thanks go to everyone
who has supported us these years: teachers, organizers,
sponsors, volunteers, and most of all to the
participants whose interest and engagement constantly
shapes who and what we are.
The aim of the organisation
is to promote the idea of interculturality with
different events. Our main project is the Yiddish Summer
Weimar (July/August) and its smaller scale initiative in
February for professional musicians – the Winter
Edition. We are project leaders in an international
cooperation for the project "The Other Europeans" which
is supported by the European commission.
